Van Jones: Romney Acted Like ‘Douche,’ Obama ‘Wimp’ During First Debate (UPDATED)

Many have said that GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney exuded more energy and confidence than opponent Barack Obama during the first debate two weeks ago, but environmental advocate Van Jones is perhaps the first commentator to state on national television that the conservative behaved like a “douche” and our current president came across as a “wimp” that evening.

Appearing on a CNN panel, Jones said of why Obama came out behind in the event:

“You had two guys up there, one was kind of acting like a douche and one was kind of acting like a wimp, and between a wimp and a douche…”

Some panelists laughed, with one female stating Jones’s name in seeming disbelief at his description choice. Jones doubled down on his selection, stating, “Those are strong words but…if that’s the divide I think people are going to want somebody who seems like a stronger leader even if they’re a little obnoxious…I thought that Romney did well for himself but he was really obnoxious, he was really aggressive.”

UPDATE: At the end of the 5 p.m. hour, Wolf Blitzer brought Jones back onto the set to give a brief apology. Jones apologized for his “poor choice of words” to his CNN colleagues, the viewers at home, and Governor Romney.
