‘We Have to Work Hard to Define Her’: Trump Appears to Admit Harris Attacks Aren’t Landing

Former President Donald Trump signaled Saturday night he would go after presumptive Democratic Party nominee Kamala Harris over her record after a week that saw him come under major scrutiny for questioning her ethnicity.

Trump told thousands of supporters in Atlanta he would attempt to “define” the vice president for voters with just over 90 days until the two face each other in the general election.

The comments were a change in tone from earlier in the week when Trump said at the convention for the National Association of Black Journalists in Chicago that Harris turned “Black” after years of identifying with her Indian roots.

“She was always of Indian heritage, and she was only promoting Indian heritage,” Trump said. “I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black, and now she wants to be known as Black. So I don’t know, is she Indian or is she Black?”

The comments led to a torrent of negative attention for Trump’s campaign while Harris continued to gain momentum for her upstart campaign.

Saturday evening, Trump told Georgians Harris was a radical leftist whose accomplishments and record needed to be highlighted to people who might just be getting to know her.

“In California Kamala Harris was the original Marxist prosecutor,” Trump said.

He compared her to district attorneys who have prosecuted criminal cases against him – cases in Georgia and New York that he said were illegitimate.

“She would not arrest criminals of the worst kind, she would not arrest murderers, and she would not have arrested anybody,” he said of the vice president.

Trump further claimed Harris had “ruined California” during her time as the attorney general of the state before he implied he would pivot to focusing on her many years in public office.

“You know, four months ago, she was considered grossly incompetent by the fake news,” Trump said. “Now they’re saying. ‘Oh, isn’t she wonderful? Isn’t she wonderful?’ No, she’s not wonderful. So we have to work hard to define her. I don’t want to even define her. I just want to say who she. She’s a horror show. She’ll destroy our country.”
