Whoopi Goldberg Slams Democrats for Not Keeping ‘Their Mouths Shut’ After Harris Takes Aim at Biden
The View’s Whoopi Goldberg slammed Democrats for not keeping “their mouths shut” during the 2024 presidential election and taking care to keep conflicts and drama in-house.
On Wednesday’s The View, Goldberg and her co-hosts went through new excerpts released from former Vice President Kamala Harris’s book 107 Days, which included her saying it was “reckless” to leave former President Joe Biden’s decision to run for re-election up to him. She also detailed struggles she had with Biden’s close team, claiming in one bit that her becoming “more popular” in polls became a problem.
Harris wrote:
“It’s Joe and Jill’s decision.” We all said that, like a mantra, as if we’d all been hypnotized. Was it grace, or was it recklessness? In retrospect, I think it was recklessness. The stakes were simply too high. This wasn’t a choice that should have been left to an individual’s ego, an individual’s ambition. It should have been more than a personal decision.
Harris also said that telling Biden directly to drop out felt “self-serving.”
Sunny Hostin reacted to Harris’s words by arguing:
One of the things that she says in retrospect, everyone was saying it’s Joe and Jill’s decision. And she was saying that as well and she says, in retrospect it was reckless because the stakes were simply too high. Look at what we are dealing with now as a country. The stakes were too high and the last thing that I will say is she herself said that all the people in the White House, she was in the worst position to make the case for Joe Biden to step aside because it would have seemed poisonously disloyal. And we know that Joe Biden demands loyalty and he gives loyalty. And so I think she’s a very loyal person and I think that is why she didn’t say anything.
Goldberg then knocked Democrats for turning controversies around Harris’s nomination and Biden’s stamina into a “public spectacle.” The View co-host did not name anyone specifically she was referring to as the problem, including Harris.
Goldberg said:
I also think that a part of the problem is when you have other people, see, I don’t think you can say it shouldn’t be the team’s decision, that’s what it has always been. We’ve never had anything like this before that we’ve had to deal with. So that was their decision that they made. Yeah, he messed up in the thing and people weren’t getting the information in the debate. But, okay, I got all of that. But the divisive for me is if the Democrats had kept their mouths shut and looked like… what I’m saying If they had kept their mouths shut and took care of this in-house, as opposed to making it a public spectacle, I think people would have had a better feel about it.
