Wilmore Hails ‘TV’s Top Journalist’ Don Lemon for Nailing Trump
Just like Jon Stewart, Larry Wilmore dedicated the opening segment of his show last night to Donald Trump’s utterly disastrous week (when it came to everything but the polls). And while Trump repeatedly refused to apologize for his comments about Mexican “rapists,” it took the unique skills of one CNN anchor to make what could be considered a breakthrough.
Wilmore reminded Trump, “You’re running for president of the United States, you can’t say an entire group of people are raping. I mean, surely you’re going to go on television and clear this up right?”
“You know, I think it’s going to take one of television’s top journalists to get to the bottom of this,” Wilmore continued. “I never thought I’d say this, but, Don Lemon… you’re our last hope.”
From there, the host played the clip of CNN’s Don Lemon challenging Trump’s assertions about immigration and rape that were apparently based on a Fusion article that the candidate failed to fully comprehend. All Trump could say in response was, “Somebody’s doing the raping.”
With Trump surging in the polls even after all of this controversy, Wilmore had a message for Republican voters: “I’m not going to chastise you, I’m not going to ridicule you. You keep doing what you’re doing, so I can keep doing what I’m doing.”
