Wolf Blitzer Confronts DHS Sec Alejandro Mayorkas on Trump Call to Shoot Down Mysterious Drones

CNN’s Wolf Blitzer confronted Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas about a statement President-elect Donald Trump released about shooting down “mystery drone sightings” over New Jersey.

The objects have appeared across the state and neighboring states throughout the week – sending many residents into a frenzy. Biden administration national security spokesperson John Kirby has said what many people are reporting seeing are civilian aircraft operating legally.

Trump posted on Truth Social on Friday night that he believes if the government does not know what is taking to the skies, the objects should be shot down.

As Mayorkas discussed the drones with Blitzer on The Situation Room, the host asked him to respond to Trump’s comments.

“Only within the past few minutes – and I don’t even know if you know this, Mr. Secretary – the President-elect, Donald Trump, he just called on the Biden administration, for you guys, to either release any information it has about these mysterious drone sightings or shoot the drones out of the sky. How do you respond to the president-elect?

Mayorkas responded without addressing Blitzer’s question directly:

Well, first of all, the statements I’ve made already are the principal message that I want to communicate to the American public. We haven’t seen anything unusual. We know of no threat. Secondly, we have gone to Congress repeatedly asking for more authority to counter drone activity. And we have also asked for more authority to give to the state and local officials under our supervision, because it correctly notes those authorities need to be expanded.

On his social media platform, Trump wrote, “Mystery Drone sightings all over the Country. Can this really be happening without our government’s knowledge? I don’t think so! Let the public know, and now. Otherwise, shoot them down!!! DJT”

Trump’s first message on the subject contained numerous grammatical errors.
