Intimate Trump-Epstein Statue Erected Just Days After Cops Took It Down
The statue of President Donald Trump and deceased sex criminal Jeffrey Epstein in an intimate pose was erected once more on the National Mall just days after federal Park Police took it down.
A mysterious group called “Secret Handshake” installed a statue on the National Mall last month depicting Trump and Epstein holding hands and skipping.
The Federal Park Police took it down because they claimed it did not comply with the permit.
But the statue has now reappeared just days into a government shutdown that has sucked up all of the attention in Washington, D.C. DC News Now’s Mariel Carbone spoke to several people who came to pose with or gawk at the statue:
ANNA-LYSA GAYLE: Also in the district, pop up art is turning heads on the National Mall. It’s a statue depicting the president and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein set up on the lawn near Third Street overnight. D. C. News. Now it’s Mariel Carbone. Joining us live on the mall. Now, Mariel, what are you learning about the people behind this?
MARIEL CARBONE: Well, Ann-Lysa, they’re certainly out here trying to get people’s attention. That’s really the point of this. Now, this is not the first statue like this to pop up on the mall. In fact, the group behind it has popped up other ones like this going after the president, this specific one focusing in on that alleged relationship between the president and Epstein.
WOMAN ONLOOKER: I’m on my way home, walking home from the doctor’s office and surprise!
MARIEL CARBONE: At the National Mall, people stopping, staring and snapping photos.
WOMAN ONLOOKER: I think it’s fantastic. I took some pictures. I’m sending them to my sister down in North Carolina.
MARIEL CARBONE: The 12 ft tall statue depicts the president and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein holding hands along with the plaque that reads in honor of friendship month. We celebrate the long lasting bond between President Donald J. Trump and his closest friend Jeffrey Epstein.
MALE ONLOOKER: It’s hilarious. It’s entirely appropriate. Two of them are, you know, bound at the hip.
MARIEL CARBONE: Two other plaques include quotes from a birthday note allegedly written by the president to Epstein. The White House has denied the letter is legitimate.
KAROLINE LEAVITT: The president did not write this letter. He did not sign this letter–.
MARIEL CARBONE: The pop up comes nearly two weeks after the Senate voted 51 to 49 against a bill that would have forced the public release of case files related to the sex trafficking investigation into Epstein, those files dubbed the Epstein files.
MALE ONLOOKER: I think there are probably a lot of people in it and like all, you know, devious stuff. Whoever is in it, it should all come to light either side. I think it’s something that people should not forget.
MARIEL CARBONE: Onlooker Joey Poole calling the statue a reminder of what’s at stake.
JOEY POOLE: I think that we should hold our leaders accountable if they indeed are in there.
MARIEL CARBONE: And the group responsible for the statues remaining anonymous and at least it’s unclear how long this will be here.
