Alleged Gunman Identified in Florida State University Shooting

 

Police identified the gunman who opened fire at Florida State University on Thursday, killing two people and wounding five others.

Leon County Sheriff Walt McNeil said in a press conference on Thursday that 20-year-old Phoenix Ikner, the son of a sheriff’s deputy who had access to one of her weapons, is the shooter. The weapon was one of those found at the scene, cops said. Eichner is now in police custody.

An Instagram account believed to belong to the shooter rocketed across social media on Thursday afternoon before it was deleted by the social media company. Mediaite could not confirm its veracity.

A spokesperson with Tallahassee Memorial Hospital confirmed to CNN that a local hospital received multiple patients with gunshot wounds. At least six patients were transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds, one who was in critical condition and the others in serious condition.
