Biden Slams ‘Self-Evident’ Insurrectionist Trump in First Comments On Ballot Ban Decision: He’s ‘Doubling Down!’
President Joe Biden was asked on Wednesday what he thought about the decision by Colorado’s Supreme Court to kick former President Donald Trump off the 2024 ballot, and he told reporters it was “up to the courts.” But when asked if Trump was an insurrectionist, he had a much more direct answer.
After explaining that he was “not going to comment on a court case,” one of the reporters on the tarmac asked Biden: “Is he [Trump] an insurrectionist?” That prompted Biden to approach the press to provide a more detailed — and blunt — response:
Reporter: Is Trump an insurrectionist, sir?
Biden: Well, I think that was certainly self-evident. You saw it all. Now whether the 14th Amendment applies, I’ll let the court make that decision. But he certainly supported an insurrection. No question about it. None. Zero. And he seems to be doubling down on about everything. Anyway…
With that, Biden left. But he made it clear how he feels about Trump’s responsibility related to January 6.
Colorado’s Supreme Court ruled in a 4-3 decision on Tuesday that Trump’s role in the January 6 insurrection disqualified him from running for or holding office again, citing Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. This meant his name would not appear on their state ballots for the 2024 general election.
