Eugene Daniels, Politico’s White House correspondent and Playbook author, is reportedly making his next big move and joining MSNBC to co-host a weekend roundtable – although the network is yet to announce or confirm.
The news comes amid a wider shake-up at the network this week that saw host Joy Reid’s show axed and her departure from the network with Symone Sanders-Townsend, Michael Steele, and Alicia Menendez — who currently co-host The Weekend — taking over Tuesday through Friday.
Jen Psaki landed a nightly primetime slot as part of the changes while liberal firebrand Rachel Maddow, who is currently hosting the 9 p.m. hour every night, is scheduled to return to just one night per week starting in late April.
In news broken by Puck’s Dylan Byers, Daniels will now co-host a new panel show, after having joined MSNBC’s Morning Joe as a senior contributor and political analyst in 2021.
Mediaite reached out to MSNBC but the network declined to comment.
As serving president of the White House Correspondents Association (WHCA), Daniels condemned the Trump administration’s announcement on Tuesday that it would be taking over the press pool rotation from the WHCA and determine which outlets will receive access.
Daniels started at Politico in 2018 and quickly became a distinctive voice at the center of the Beltway’s must-read morning newsletter, Playbook.
The journalist was Playbook’s first Black co-author and its first openly LGBTQ+ lead writer.
Throughout Daniels’ tenure, he reported on midterm elections, the Democratic presidential primaries in 2020, Kamala Harris’s campaign and the 2024 presidential election.
