‘I Am Satisfied’: Biden Says He Believes Justice Was Served In His Son’s Trial, Won’t ‘Do Anything’
President Joe Biden reiterated to a reporter on Thursday that he would not intervene in his son Hunter Biden’s legal cases.
Biden previously stated that he would not pardon his son if he were found guilty. After the guilty verdict was handed down, Biden administration officials avoided a direct answer to the question of whether or not he would commute his son’s sentence.
During a press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the G7 Summit in Italy, Biden took questions from AP reporter Colleen Long, who asked Biden about his plans related to Hunter Biden’s felony conviction:
[O]n the news from home, you’re going through something that so many American families go through, the intersection of addiction and the criminal justice system. But you’re not like most families. Was your son able to get a fair trial? Do you believe the Justice Department operated independently of politics?
Biden’s answer:
With regard to the question regarding the family, I’m extremely proud of my son, Hunter. He has overcome an addiction. He’s one of the brightest, most decent men I know. And I am satisfied that I’m not going to do anything. I said I’d abide by the jury decision. I will do that, and I will not pardon him.
