‘I’ve Just Knocked This Trial Down!’ Trump Claims ‘Perry Mason’-Style Victory In Rant Outside Fraud Trial Courtroom

Former President Donald Trump claimed a “Perry Mason”-style victory in a rant outside the courtroom where his fraud trial is being held, predicting the case would soon be “dismissed.”

On Wednesday morning, Trump showed up for a second straight day for his trial in the fraud case brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James and presided over by Judge Arthur Engoron.

Trump was immediately peppered with shouted questions from reporters who asked about the bombing of a Gaza hospital and the failed election to try and install Rep. Jim Jordan as speaker of the House.

Later, Trump emerged from the courtroom during a break in the proceedings and was again bombarded with questions from reporters about the speaker’s race, which he answered by lashing out at the AG and complaining that he had to be in court instead of out campaigning for the presidency. He also claimed, of the fireworks in the courtroom, “This was like Perry Mason.”

When Trump emerged to go back into court a few minutes later, he claimed that he had struck a knockout blow in court that would soon lead the case — in which Trump has already been ruled liable for fraud — to soon be dismissed:

REPORTER 1: Mr. President, Senator Bob Menendez is being arraigned on Monday, this superseding indictment (inaudible). What do you think about that?

DONALD TRUMP: Well, I don’t know very well. I wish him luck. He’s a Democrat? I wish him the best. What I did see and what you just saw was what took place in the courtroom just now. And it’s a disgrace that this case was brought. It’s election interference. That’s what they’re doing, because I’m here instead of been campaigning. And I guess as you. There’s a CNBC poll that has me way ahead of Biden.

REPORTER 2: Why aren’t you campaigning, sir?

DONALD TRUMP: Because I want to be at this trial, because I want to see what’s happening at this trial. And because moments like this. I’ve just knocked this trial down to the level that it should be dismissed —

REPORTER 3: Will you appeal?

DONALD TRUMP: This trial is a disgrace. This trial is a disgrace. Should have never been brought. And if you watched what just took place in the courthouse, if you report it honestly, and I’m sure you will, because it’s really no other way you can report it. The government lied. They knew everything about what just took place, and the government lied and they lied to the people.

The attorney general lied because she wanted to get elected by using Trump. And if you look at what just took place, the government has been now proven to be a liar and there has to be some kind of recourse for what’s going on. And that’s why because if I wasn’t here probably making people wouldn’t see the facts the way they are. So we’ll go inside and we’ll watch the rest of it. And I think you’ll find it very interesting.

REPORTERS: Are you going to appeal? Does Jordan have the votes? Are you coming back tomorrow?
