Jon Karl Darkly Warns of Trump Loyalists Who’d Let Him Off the Leash if Re-Elected: ‘Would Be There to Follow Orders’
ABC News’ Jon Karl ominously predicted that if Donald Trump gets elected president again, he’d be far more unbound in the White House because he would make sure no one in his administration will try to restrain him like they did the first time.
Karl joined Morning Joe on Monday, where Jonathan Lemire asked him about what steps Trump’s people are going to take depending on whether he wins or loses the 2024 election. This comes as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis predicted Trump will cry foul over any election results he does not approve of, a comment which Lemire and Karl found exceedingly obvious.
On the possibility of Trump stirring up his followers if he loses to President Joe Biden again, Karl served up a reminder that Trump’s presidency ended with him trying to overturn his defeat, and his efforts failed “because many of the people who worked for him refused to do what he directly ordered.”
He wanted to use the power of the Justice Department to pressure the states to overturn their election results… He wanted Chad Wolf, the acting secretary, to use the Department of Homeland Security to seize voting machines after the DOJ refused to go along with his orders. He was infuriated when the leaders of the Army, the Chief of Staff of the Army and the Secretary of the Army put out a statement in December of 2020 saying that the military has no role in determining the outcome of a presidential election. In other words, the U.S. Military won’t take part in a coup. It infuriated him, and those two leaders were threatened with losing their jobs if they repeated it.
Since Trump is no longer encumbered by those who in his administration who wouldn’t go along with his schemes, Karl made the point that “If he did get elected again, I think that the assumption you have to make is that the people that stopped him the first time around would not be in a second Trump administration.”
“They wouldn’t be there to resist what he was demanding. They would be there to follow orders,” Karl said. “If he refuses to accept the results this time around, the fear would be: will there be violence in the country? That’s a real fear, but he won’t have the power of the presidency.”
