Multiple People Reported Killed, Wounded in Mass Shooting at Florida State University: UPDATED

There was an active shooting incident at Florida State University’s campus in the state capital, Tallahassee on Thursday.

There were some initial reports of multiple shooters, but local authorities later confirmed they believe the shooter acted alone. The alleged shooter, identified as 20-year-old Phoenix Ikner, the son of a local sheriff’s deputy, is in custody, law enforcement sources have confirmed to multiple local reporters.

Cops were seen rushing into the university’s student union Thursday as an emergency alert called for all students in the area to shelter in place. The campus remains on lockdown. Multiple ambulances were seen rushing from campus to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. A source at the hospital reports that at least four victims from the shooting were brought there.

During a live hit as the event was unfolding, Fox contributor Nicole Parker noted, “Again, without having time to sift through all of the facts, we don’t know if some of the individuals at the hospital are separate from the five that have been declared deceased. There could be multiple individuals that have not been accounted for at this point. And again, as the law enforcement officer, as an FBI agent who did respond, it takes a lot of time to determine how many deceased there are if there was indeed a large number.”

The FBI has been called in to assist with the investigation, according to ABC News. All classes and events scheduled for Thursday have been canceled.

“Praying for the safety of everyone at FSU and a swift recovery for those injured,” Florida Sen. Rick Scott posted on X. “My team has been in touch with local law enforcement and continues to monitor the situation – students should continue to follow directions from school officials.”

Forrest Saunders, the Florida Capitol reporter for E.W. Scripps, posted several video clips from campus.

Here, the aftermath of laptops, shoes, and other items left behind by fleeing students are shown.

In this clip, first responders can be seen putting shackles on an individual on a stretcher that has been loaded into an ambulance.

UPDATE 3:00 PM ET: News reports have been updated to say the number of killed and wounded is unclear at this time. “The extent of injuries and casualties has been unclear as law enforcement works to confirm events of the day and as they continue to sweep the campus,” reported Orlando’s ABC affiliate WFTV.

CNN reported that a spokesperson with TMH had confirmed the hospital had received multiple patients with gunshot wounds from the FSU campus. At least six patients were transported to TMH with gunshot wounds, one who was in critical condition and the others in serious condition.

This is a developing story and has been updated.
