Biden Says U.S. Does Not Support Israel Bombing Iranian Nuclear Sites
President Joe Biden told reporters on Wednesday that he does not support Israel striking Iranian nuclear facilities in retaliation for the ballistic missile attack the day prior.
On Tuesday, Iran launched some 180 missiles at Israel, which set of rocket sirens in every region of the country and caused damage, but no major injuries to Israelis. A Palestinian in the West Bank was killed by falling rocket debris.
“The answer is no,” Biden told a reporter when asked if supports Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear targets.
“And I think there are some things. We’ll be discussing with the Israelis what they’re going to do. But all seven of us agree that they have a right to respond, but they should respond in proportion,” Biden continued. Previously in the question and answer he said that he called for a meeting of the G7 and that Iran will face some additional sanctions.
“Sir, can I ask you, what is your advice to Israel as far as how they should respond to this right now?” asked another reporter.
“I leave that to… we’re giving them that advice,” responded Biden.
“Okay. When will you talk to Bibi?” followed up the reporter.
“Well, we’ve been talking to Bibi’s people the whole time. I know it’s not necessary to talk to the I’ll probably be talking them relatively soon,” Biden replied.
Both Biden’s secretary of defense and national security adviser said Iran will face “severe consequences” after its attack on Israel.
