Stunning images taken from Saturday evening’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, captured the exact moments before, during, and after a bullet struck former President Donald Trump as he addressed a crowd of supporters just two days before the Republican National Convention was scheduled to begin Monday in Milwaukee.

Doug Mills, a photographer for The New York Times, captured with his camera not only a bullet whizzing by Trump’s head but also the moment it struck the presumptive GOP nominee in the ear and as Trump first touched the wound to discover he had been struck by gunfire.

What will almost certainly become a photograph remembered in history, Mills caught a still image of a bullet as it flew past Trump’s head while he delivered remarks from Pennsylvania:

Two other photos taken by Mills showed Trump being struck in the right ear by the bullet as well as what appeared to be his initial realization that something had harmed him.

The third image shows Trump’s hand covered with blood:

Trump was struck by a would-be assassin’s bullet – a man who reportedly crawled up a building with a rifle – and took aim at the former president before he was killed by agents with the U.S. Secret Service.

A rally-goer, presumably in the shooter’s direct line of sight, was killed in the assassination attempt while another was wounded.

According to Trump, he was okay after the incident. He quickly released a statement in which he thanked his Secret Service detail for protecting him.

“I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening,” he said on his Truth Social account. “It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country.”

Trump also expressed his condolences for the rally-goer who was killed during the botched assassination attempt.
