TikTok has announced that it is scrubbing its platform for content pertaining to the viral resurgence of Osama Bin Laden’s infamous “Letter to America.”
As the war between Israel and Hamas continues in the Middle East, there has been a recent trend on TikTok where users have posted videos of themselves agreeing with bin Laden’s infamous letter. For years, The Guardian had a page where the document was translated to English so readers could see the 9/11 terrorist leader’s attempt to justify al-Qaeda’s attacks on the U.S. and Israel.
The Guardian’s page was unearthed by TikTok users who posted themselves sympathizing with bin Laden, reading his letter and encouraging others to do the same.
Over the past 24 hours, thousands of TikToks (at least) have been posted where people share how they just read Bin Laden’s infamous "Letter to America," in which he explained why he attacked the United States.

This caused a traffic spike that prompted The Guardian to remove the text from the webpage, saying “We have decided to take it down and direct readers to the news article that originally contextualized it instead.”
The trend sparked outrage and negative media coverage for TikTok, but on Thursday, the video-sharing platform announced that the letter’s promotion “clearly violates our rules on supporting any form of terrorism.”
“We are proactively and aggressively removing this content and investigating how it got onto our platform,” the platform posted on X (formerly Twitter). “The number of videos on TikTok is small and reports of it trending on our platform are inaccurate. This is not unique to TikTok and has appeared across multiple platforms and the media.”
