WATCH: Here’s How Stunning SIX HOUR Police Chase Finally Ended
Police in Los Angeles pursued an armed suspect for s stunning six hours Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning, all documented live on video.
Car chases are an unfortunately too-common sight in Los Angeles, but Tuesday night’s pursuit was not your typical high-speed affair. It began just after 7 pm and would continue for more than six hours — all while being filmed by news helicopters.
NBC Los Angeles’ report on the chase reads like one of those Saturday Night Live “The Californians” sketches, with detailed references to freeway numbers and street names.
The chase began after a report of a man with a gun, and in the first hour of the chase, NBCLA reports the man could be seen chatting on his cell phone while driving — probably the least of the charges he’ll end up facing. Speeds during the chase ranged from over 90 miles per hour to an occasional dead stop.
The station provided video updates on Twitter throughout the chase.
“Approaching hour three of this police pursuit, the driver continues to play cat and mouse games, driving at slow speeds and even coming to a momentary stop on the 10 Freeway,” the station reported at around 10.

As the station reports, the chase finally ended in a shower of sparks, but the station’s chopper had to leave to refuel, and so they missed the man’s actual apprehension after a standoff with police. Another NBCLA journalist caught that moment on video.
