Any Guesses on How Things Are Going at the RNC Today?

One of the coolest things about political conventions in this day and age is being able to see what’s happening there in real time via Twitter, Snapchat, live streaming, and more. Sure, cable news shows some of it, but the breadth of available information in the digital age is pretty astounding.

For instance, Vox’s Liz Plank made a quick Snapchat video this morning to let her followers know that the convention was being evacuated because, in her words, “shit [was] going down.” She followed that up with a tweet:

There is still some mystery around the evacuation, which was eventually reversed. It doesn’t necessarily come as any sort of surprise, of course, because violence and protest from Donald Trump supporters and detractors alike has been being predicted for months. 

Other stuff is going on, too! Let’s look at what else the good people on the ground are reporting with their smartphones. A lot of it is silly and funny, perhaps owing to the fact that so few actual elected officials wanted to speak this year and so many of the speakers are celebrities with apolitical careers or lower-ranking Republicans. Beyond that, there are still the standard costume-wearing revelers and pin-selling opportunists, so let’s get to it!
