AOC Blames Her Growing Unfavorability on ‘Concerted Far-Right Propaganda Machine’

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) responded to her growing nation-wide unfavorability on the “directed + concerted far-right propaganda machine” and a “dark-money internet operation propped up by the Mercers” on Thursday.

A recently released Quinnipiac poll showed she is at a “negative 23 – 36 percent favorability rating, with 38 percent who haven’t heard enough about her to form an opinion.”

“All is definitely not A-OK for AOC. Most voters either don’t like the firebrand freshman Congresswoman or don’t know who she is,”  Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll, said.

Ocasio-Cortez hinted the Fox News Channel and conservative outlets are “dedicated to maligning me & stoking nat’l division”:

She also acknowledged “many centrist Democrats and ostensibly Democrat-leaning media outlets are also working to undercut” her as much as they can, saying “someone’s got to care about growing” the Democratic base:

Indeed Ocasio-Cortez does get a lot of coverage of her proposed policies, like the Green New Deal, and her speeches. Vox said it’s because conservatives both hate and fear her:

It turns out she got more coverage on Fox than any candidate save one, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who is also a right-wing boogeyman. Ocasio-Cortez got significantly more Fox News coverage than fellow democratic socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders.

It’s astonishing that a Democratic backbencher could get this much attention and get so famous at the beginning of her first term. It’s a testament to how much of a phenomenon she is on the Democratic left — and how much the right seems to both hate and fear her.

The Congresswoman’s had also called out other polls showing her unfavorability is growing.
