Best of Late Night: Colbert Says HRC’s in the Woods ‘Restaging the Debates With a Dead Squirrel’

screen-shot-2016-12-15-at-11-22-09-am-650x422Wednesday night’s Late Show on CBS saw the host power through a politically-charged monologue that took swipes at everything from Donald Trump‘s cabinet to the Russian-inspired Wikileaks hacks.

Stephen Colbert at one point even broke into a faux Frank Sinatra song to mock the President-elect on an admission he made at a Wisconsin rally this week. While on stage in front of thousands, Donald Trump admitted that on election night he told his wife Melania, “Baby, we’re not gonna win tonight.” Right on cue, Colbert — with help of Jon Batiste and Stay Human — broke into a crooners rendition of the Trump line.

But the Late Show host managed a few good barbs at other presidential contenders as well. During a segment of his monologue he departed from our soon-to-be 45th President to discuss what others have been doing. “We’re all still dissecting what happened in this election,” said Colbert. “Jill Stein is demanding recounts, [and] Hillary Clinton is in the woods restaging the debates with a dead squirrel.”

The segment concluded with a bit that saw the host dig up his best Richard Nixon impression to read off a series of “letters” from the late President to Donald Trump. The President-elect has announced that he will include an actual letter from Tricky Dick in the Oval Office after his Inauguration.
