This year, New York City’s Mayor Bill de Blasio had some successes and he wants you to know about them. He does have a few missteps he probably wants you to stop focusing on ahead of his reelection bid, after all.
He made a musical tribute to 2016 with Broadway performers Jenna Ushkowitz and James Monroe Iglehart that was designed to highlight the strides made for tenants’ rights and the millionth pothole filled throughout the the five boroughs. The whole video ran into its own sort of pothole, though, when watchdog groups pointed out that it uses city resources, like a mayoral SUV and the office’s official Twitter account, to promote a man who is running for re-election next year, according to the New York Times.
The little video features first lady Chirlane McCray and senior adviser Andrea Hagelgans, which makes it personal and sort of fun, but it probably would have been better received if “Billy D. B.” weren’t running for reelection in the near future.
