Blind Florida Man Gets His Guns Back After Fatally Shooting Friend

Florida strikes again! A blind man who fatally shot his friend and was on trial for premeditated first degree murder not only was granted immunity under the state’s stand your ground law, but the judge in his case actually gave him his guns back, even though he didn’t want to.

John Rogers shot his drinking buddy two years ago, but ended up getting acquitted this week. Rogers wanted his guns returned, and while Judge John Galluzzo really, really did not want to, he ended up doing so, saying “I have to return property that was taken under the circumstance. I have researched and haven’t found case law to say otherwise.”

Rogers, who became legally blind after a construction accident, affirmed his constitutional right to bear arms in an interview after he got his guns back, and said he wasn’t brandishing the guns in public, he had them on his private property.
