Boston Monsignor Arrested With A Prostitute…Behind A Cemetery
Monsignor Arthur M. Coyle, a 62-year-old priest with the Archdiocese of Boston, was arrested behind a Lowell, Massachusetts cemetery with a prostitute on Sunday.
Authorities have seen Coyle cruising for prostitutes multiple times before he was pulled over this weekend.
“I asked him why he picked her up,” wrote Lowell police Detective Rafael Rivera, in the police report. “He said for ‘sex’ but they had not done anything. He went on to state that he had offered her $40 for oral sex.”
Coyle pleaded not guilty. After being released from jail on $500 bond, Coyle was placed on administrative leave. “While on administrative leave, Msgr. Coyle is prohibited from performing any public ministry,” the diocese said. “These restrictions will remain in place pending the outcome of the case.”
Coyle was ordained in 1977, and was promoted to Episcopal Vicar for the Merrimack Region in 2009. Last year, he was honored by Pope Benedict with the title of prelate of honor.
