Brian Ross Returns to Television With George Papadopoulos Scoop

Brian Ross, until earlier this year chief investigative correspondent for ABC News, returned to TV Friday with an exclusive on Law & Crime, Mediaite’s sister entity, about indicted former Trump aide George Papadopoulos.

It was announced in August that Ross was joining Law & Crime as chief investigative reporter, along with Rhonda Schwartz, the former chief of investigative projects at ABC News, who joined as executive investigative producer. He hosted the trial network from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, and his upcoming show, Brian Ross Investigates, will debut in the coming weeks.

On Friday, Ross told Mediaite and Law & Crime founder Dan Abrams that he attended Papadopoulos’s wedding at a court in Cook County, Chicago, IL and showed the exclusive, somewhat bizarre video from the event.

“At dinner they said, ‘By the way, we’re getting married tomorrow. Would you like to come?'” Ross said. He replied, “Sure, why not, trying to build up a source relationship.”

“No one from his family [was there],” Ross added.

Papadopoulos’s wife Simona Mangiante is Italian and was trained as a lawyer, but the FBI originally thought that she was a Russian agent.

“. . .in fact she has a job now playing apparently Brigitte Bardot for some movie,” Ross explained.

Meanwhile, Papadopoulos’s trouble with the law is getting in the way of the happy couple’s celebration.

“This is supposed to be their honeymoon time, instead he may face the prospect of going off to prison,” Ross said.

“She’s been very outspoken saying that President Trump, if he’s not completely incoherent, should in fact give her husband a pardon,” he added.

“What better way to launch your career than your husband being indicted by the special counsel?” Abrams quipped.

“Talk about romance in the era of Trump,” Ross agreed.
