Charlie Hebdo May Receive Government Funding

Charlie Hebdo is receiving private financial backing, from a firm supported by Google and the Guardian Media Group, and people are donating to help them out, but they may also receive funding directly from the French government.

French Culture Minister Fleur Pellerin spoke out this week in support of Charlie Hebdo and indicated she would attempt to see if they can provide one million euros in funding for the paper.

Justice Minister Christiane Taubira also weighed in, saying on the radio, “Public aid to help Charlie would be justified. We cannot envision Charlie Hebdo disappearing.”
