The DCCC, which fundraises for the campaigns of congressional Democrats, confirmed on Friday that it was the victim of an attack similar to the one that exposed tens of thousands of DNC emails made public last week.
Later the same day, sources confirmed that the Clinton campaign was also successfully targeted.
Reuters reports:
The U.S. Department of Justice national security division is investigating whether cyber hacking attacks on Democratic political organizations threatened U.S. security, sources familiar with the matter said on Friday.
The involvement of the Justice Department’s national security division is a sign that the Obama administration has concluded that the hacking was state sponsored, individuals with knowledge of the investigation said.
Experts believe that the DNC hack was carried out by intruders connected to Russian leadership, though the Kremlin has denied any involvement.
