Comedian Tig Notaro Offers to Host 2016 Oscars in Hilarious Open Letter to Academy
Despite successful runs hosting the Tony and Emmy Awards, Neil Patrick Harris received generally bad reviews for his Oscar hosting duties this past weekend. And the show tanked in the ratings, dropping 14% from the previous year when Ellen DeGeneres did the honors.
With that in mind, comedian Tig Notaro has posted an open letter to the Academy on her website, listing 11 reasons why she believes she should be hired to host next year’s award show.
“Now, let me start by saying that I don’t have a problem with Neil Patrick Harris,” Notaro begins. “This letter is STRICTLY an attempt to procure work for myself and if that means bumping this dude out of the way next year, then so be it.”
From there, she lays out her argument point by point, including the fact that “not much scares me or makes me nervous these days” following some harrowing medical problems she has dealt with over the last few years. Notaro also notes that people are always telling her she looks just like DeGeneres, which can only be a plus.
Her postscript on the article read, “Please see to it that this letter goes viral,” and urges her fans to spread the word with the hashtag “#HashTigOscars.” Of course, since Notaro isn’t actually on Twitter, this might be easier said than done.
