Connecticut Governor Not Interested in Taking Refugee Advice From Indiana
Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy denounced Indiana Gov. Mike Pence Wednesday for rerouting two Syrian refugee families in light of last week’s terror attacks on Paris, evoking Pence’s support for a controversial anti-gay bill.
“But this is the same guy who signed a homophobic bill in the spring surrounded by homophobes,” Malloy said, adding he’s “not surprised by anything the governor does.” Malloy also suggested Gov. Pence does not have the legal authority to block refugees from moving to Indiana.
Earlier this week, the spotlight of the Syrian refugee debate shifted to Connecticut after Pence directed Indiana agencies to divert refugees way from the state. Connecticut, one of several states to reaffirm its commitment to refugees, became the final destination for at least one of the families.
“It is the right thing, the humane thing to do,” Malloy said about Connecticut’s decision to accept refugees. “Quite frankly, if you believe in God, it’s the morally correct thing to do.”
