Could CT Massacre Have Been Worse? Multiple Unused 30-Round Magazines Found At Scene

Evidence taken from the scene of a deadly shooting spree at a Connecticut elementary school on Friday suggests that the massacre, in which 26 people including 20 children lost their lives, could have been far worse. Investigators say they found multiple 30-round magazines at the scene of the attack which had not been fired before the gunman, Adam Lanza, took his own life.

While the attack in Connecticut was devastating and ranks among the worse school massacres in American history, police say the death toll could have been higher if first responders did not arrive at the scene when they did. Connecticut State Police say that Lanza fatally shot himself as first responders were closing in – when much of his ammunition had not yet been spent.

“There was a lot of ammo, a lot of clips,” said State Police Lt. Paul Vance on Sunday. “Certainly a lot of lives were potentially saved.”

Lanza used two semi-automatic handguns, a Sig Sauer and a Glock 10mm, as well as a Bushmaster rifle. Police found a shotgun in his car which was not used in the attack. Lanza took the lives of 20 children between the ages of six and seven and six adults in the deadly Friday morning assault.
