Curt Schilling: If I’d Said ‘Lynch Trump’ I’d Make Baseball Hall of Fame

The ballots are in for this year’s Baseball Hall of Fame vote, and former Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling is pretty sure that he’s not on the necessary 75% of them to earn induction to Cooperstown. And the outspoken conservative believes that it’s not for baseball reasons, but rather, because of his controversial social media posts — including an anti-trans Facebook post, which contributed to his firing at ESPN.

“They’re not hiding the fact that they’ve stopped voting for me because of the things I’ve said on social media,” Schilling said, in an interview with TMZ. “That’s their prerogative as voters.”

Then he added, “I promise you, If I had said ‘Lynch Trump,’ I’d be getting in with about 90% of the vote.”

This is not the first time Schilling has invoked lynching recently. Right before the election, the six-time All Star pitcher shared a picture on his Twitter account of a T-shirt which called for journalists to be lynched.

The 2017 Hall of Fame nominees are announced on Jan. 18. Schilling does not expect to get the Hall call that day.

“Fair doesn’t enter into it,” Schilling said, referring to the decision making process of the voters.
