Curt Schilling Rips Govt. Response to PR: They’re ‘Afraid Somebody Will Get Blamed’

Former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling hosts a daily show on Breitbart. He backed Roy Moore in the recent Alabama Senate primary. He recently shared that he will no longer root for the Pittsburgh Steelers because of their decision not to come out for the National Anthem. On many, many issues, Schilling’s position aligns with that of President Donald Trump.

But on the Trump administration’s response to the devastation in Puerto Rico caused by Hurricane Maria? Schilling has absolutely nothing nice to say.

The former pitcher called in to Fox Business Friday for a brief chat with Liz McDonald. Schilling is on the ground in Puerto Rico trying to aid in the recovery effort through his charity. He painted an extremely bleak picture of what is happening on the island — saying that he believes the death toll will rise into the thousands.

“People down outside of this island — there’s no concept of the destruction,” Schilling said. “None…If this were Houston, Texas there’d be 50,000 soldiers on the ground. And it’s not.”

Schilling did not specifically criticize Trump or anyone else by name. But he did relay a story about a run-in with a FEMA administrator. Schilling said that he was working to arrange for a private flight for a woman on the island who was suffering from a potentially fatal infection. But the FEMA employee reportedly told Schilling that he was not following protocol, and it would be two weeks before transportation might be cleared.

The former Red Sox pitcher believes that it’s all because government officials are looking to avoid blame.

“The most pathetic part about all of this, is that you know as well as I do that the reason [the current reported death toll isn’t] much more realistic is everybody is afraid somebody will get blamed,” Schilling said. “And that is causing these hang-ups.”
