Dallas PD in Standoff, Exchanging Gunfire, With Suspect Who Claims ‘The End Is Coming’ (UPDATED)

ChiefDallas Police Chief David O. Brown said that police officers had been exchanging gunfire and “negotiating” with one suspect who threatened officers with more violence, claimed he had laid several explosives, and said that “the end is coming.”

Brown gave this information to reporters during a press conference at around 12:30 Friday morning local time. At the time, he said that the situation had been ongoing for 45 minutes.

The standoff is taking place at the garage of El Centro in Downtown Dallas, Brown said.

The suspect told police that he had explosives “all over the place,” including the garage and the downtown area.

The suspect was “not being very cooperative” in the negotiations, Brown said.

Brown cautioned that police were not wholly confident that they had located all suspects.

UPDATE: Negotiations with the suspect “broke down,” Brown said at a subsequent press conference Friday morning at 7:30 am. Police used a robot to detonate an explosive, killing him, at about 5 a.m. local time. “The reporting that the suspect killed himself is not accurate,” he said.
