Ann Coulter tried making fun of hashtag activism with a twist on #BringBackOurGirls this week. It ended up backfiring. But beyond that, Democratic congressman John Yarmuth, when asked about Coulter mocking the hashtag, called her a “despicable human being.”
In case you need a reminder, #BringBackOurGirls is the hashtag being used as part of a campaign to raise awareness about the hundreds of kidnapped Nigerian girls. Michelle Obama got in on the trend, lots of celebrities did, and some on the right reacted to the hashtag activism with derision. Coulter posted a Twitter photo with the hashtag #BringBackOurCountry, which inspired much online derision and plenty of parodies.
Yarmuth was talking about what the U.S. can do to help the situation, when he was asked about Coulter poking fun at the hashtag.
In response, Yarmuth called Coulter a “despicable human being” for poking fun at those efforts.
And Coulter was no less critical on Hannity last night, when she suggested a better hashtag for the First Lady is “I’m married to an idiot.”
