Dem Sen. McCaskill: Trump’s Lawyer ‘Giving Akin a Run for His Money’
Donald Trump‘s special counsel Michael Cohen wasn’t terribly happy with a Daily Beast report on how Trump’s ex-wife Ivana Trump alleged years ago that Trump had raped her (she later walked it back a little), and he threatened the reporters writing the story.
But the one comment getting lots of attention tonight is Cohen saying, “By the very definition, you can’t rape your spouse… It is true. You cannot rape your spouse. And there’s very clear case law.”
One of the first big reactions came from Democratic Senator Claire McCaskill, who had this to say about Cohen:
Most shocking part of this? Trump's lawyer thinks it's legal to rape your spouse. Giving Akin a run for his money. http://t.co/eB9h2KjiFc

.@groskogirl I spent years in the courtroom as a prosecutor, and it is incompetent for any lawyer to not know that rape is rape.

That first tweet references Todd Akin, whose campaign against McCaskill derailed after he talked about “legitimate rape” during a TV interview.
