Democratic Rep Apologizes for Joke About Kellyanne Conway Looking ‘Familiar’ On Her Knees

Representative Cedric Richmond (D-LA) offered an apology to Kellyanne Conway on Sunday night over a joke he made last week at the White House Senior Counselor’s expense.
“I understand the way my remarks have been received by many,” said Richmond “I apologize to Kellyanne Conway and everyone who has found my comments offensive.”

Conway recently got a lot of attention over a photo of her kneeling on an Oval Office sofa while President Trump met with several leaders of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. The photo went viral at the time, and during a dinner with the Washington Press Club Foundation, Richmond said Conway “looked kind of familiar in that position there.”
Richmond’s joke was panned from political figures on the right and the left, and he initially attempted to explain the remarks by saying he didn’t mean for his words to sound crude.
“Where I grew up saying that someone is looking or acting ‘familiar’ simply means that they are behaving too comfortably,” Richmond said on Thursday. “I decided to use that joke due to the large social media backlash over her inappropriate posture considering there were more than 60 HBCU presidents in the room.”
