DSCC Cuts Ad Buys for Landrieu Runoff
The Democrats current election losses stand at seven seats; apparently they don’t mind making it eight.
The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee canceled some of its ad buys in Louisiana ahead of incumbent Senator Mary Landrieu’s runoff. The Democrats were trounced on Tuesday, ceding control of the Senate, and rendering a single race less pivotal.
Landrieu narrowly defeated opponent Bill Cassidy 42-41 in the general, failing to clear the 50% threshold to avoid a runoff. But Cassidy was hurt by competing Republican candidates siphoning off votes; without them, polls show him beating Landrieu comfortably.
“Mary Landrieu is a proven run-off winner and we support her 100 percent,” the DSCC said Thursday. “We are going to make ongoing determinations on how best to invest in the race. We made the initial reservation when there were concerns that the rates would skyrocket but they have stabilized, giving us more flexibility to make week-to-week decisions.”
