Egypt Strikes at ISIS-Affiliated Targets in Retaliation for Mass Beheadings
In retaliation for the reported beheading of over one dozen Coptic Egyptians, Egypt attacked ISIS-affiliated sites in eastern Libya Monday.
“Avenging Egyptian blood and punishing criminals and murderers is our right and duty,” the country’s military said in a statement read on Egyptian television.
The military targeted training camps in the city of Derma. There was no word as to the extent of damages.

The bombings come after a Libyan jihadi group claiming alliance with ISIS released a video purportedly showing the beheadings of 21 Coptic Christians. The video contained references to Rome and was considered a threat against Europe as well as Egypt.
ISIS, the band of Sunni militants who have been marauding across Syria and Egypt, have released several beheading videos over the past six month; yesterday’s was one of the first to come from an ISIS-affiliated group outside the Syria/Iraq region.
Egypt’s response comes one week after Jordan launched attacks against ISIS in retaliation for the immolation death of one of their pilots.
