Elderly Vet Arrested After Asking Politician to Speak Louder in Town Meeting

A 76-year-old veteran was arrested for disorderly conduct after he interrupted a county board meeting in Greenville, Tenn. However, Eddie Overholt claims that he was simply asking the mayor to speak up.

“Okay, I’m under arrest,” he mumbled in a folksy twang as he was led, handcuffed, from the room.

Overholt later told local station WATE that, really, no one could actually hear the board, which met to discuss a potential pipeline to dump waste from a U.S. Nitrogen plant into a local river.

“The board met up at the front of the room at a big table, had us roped off, and they were talking so low nobody could hear,” he explained.

The mayor’s office has yet to comment.
