Elizabeth Warren Denounces Gun Violence After Vegas Shooting: ‘Thoughts & Prayers are NOT Enough’

A quick scan of the Twitter feeds of those in Congress (curated here via CSPAN) reveals that the vast majority have been focused on sending thoughts and prayers to the victims and families of the Las Vegas shooting massacre — in which more than 50 people have been reported dead, and more than 400 are reported to be injured.
But in a series of tweets, Senator Elizabeth Warren denounced gun violence, and issued a call to action.
“Tragedies like Las Vegas have happened too many times,” Warren wrote. “We need to have the conversation about how to stop gun violence. We need it NOW.”
I’m heartsick for the victims of last night’s massacre in Las Vegas & their loved ones.

I’m heartsick for people in Nevada & across the country who woke up to this news & are worried that their family & friends are ok.

Thoughts & prayers are NOT enough. Not when more moms & dads will bury kids this week, & more sons & daughters will grow up without parents.

Tragedies like Las Vegas have happened too many times. We need to have the conversation about how to stop gun violence. We need it NOW.

Following the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando last June, Warren made the following remarks (via Mass Live) about gun violence on the Senate floor:
One side shouts, “It was a gun that killed all of those people.” The other side shouts, “It wasn’t a gun – it was a terrorist that killed all of those people.” And through all of the shouting, we miss what should be obvious.
It was a terrorist with a gun that killed all those people. A terrorist with hate in his heart and a gun in his hand that killed all those people. It is time for us to acknowledge all of these truths, and to come together to address them.
