Elks Lodge Disowns ‘Dead, Dead Michael Brown’ Song at Ex-Cop Charity Event

TMZ obtained video of a song at a charity event for current and former police officers in which a former federal investigator sang a “Bad, Bad Leroy Brown” parody about shooting victim Michael Brown.

But perhaps the most shocking and over-the-line part of the song was the part when Gary Fishell sang, “Michael looked like some old Swiss cheese/His brain was splattered on the floor/And he’s dead, dead Michael Brown.”

So what happened, according to TMZ, is that an ex-LAPD officer threw a charity golf event at the Elks Lodge in Glendale, CA, and Fishell, a performer at the lodge, sang the parody for them.

Fishell’s lawyer told TMZ that he thought the room full of cops would “get a kick out of it,” but upon further reflection he realized the song was “off color and in poor taste.”

And a trustee for the Lodge said most of its members were absolutely disgusted with the song, calling it “deplorable and inappropriate” and saying they will probably take disciplinary action against Fishell and the event organizers.

As for said organizers, the ex-LAPD officer who set up the event told TMZ, “This is America. We can say what we want. This is a free America.”
