Elon Musk Mocks the SEC on Twitter: ‘Shortseller Enrichment Commission’

Elon Musk this afternoon openly mocked the SEC on Twitter.

Last week Musk settled the securities fraud charge from the SEC, following his tweet in August about potentially taking Tesla private. He’s staying on as CEO of Tesla but is stepping down as chairman and paying a $20 million fine.

The Wall Street Journal reported today that Mark Cuban spoke to Musk and advised him “that a settlement wouldn’t be as damaging as a court fight with the agency.”

This afternoon Musk tweeted out a mocking statement aimed at the SEC saying, “Just want to that the Shortseller Enrichment Commission is doing incredible work. And the name change is so on point!”

A CNN report on today’s developments actually says that “the SEC told CNN Business that it has not changed its name and declined further comment on the tweet.”
