Florida Lawmaker Wants to Require Every Student to Watch Dinesh D’Souza’s Movie

Dinesh D’Souza’s new book America: Imagine a World without Her may be having some trouble when it comes to Google and Costco, but his movie of the same name could be getting a boost from one state senator in Florida.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Republican Alan Hays plans to introduce a bill this fall that would require all public high schools and middle schools in the state to show the film to students, as long as parents of those students do not object.
“I saw the movie and walked out of the theater and said, ‘Wow, our students need to see this,'” Hays said of the film, which takes a conservative point of view on the history of the United States “And it’s my plan to show it to my colleagues in the legislature, too, before they’re asked to vote on the bill.”
“I’ve looked at history books and talked to history teachers and the message the students are getting is very different from what is in the movie,” Hays continued. “It’s dishonest and insulting. The students need to see the truth without political favoritism.” He said he’s open to schools showing a liberal-leaning film for contrast, but added, “this movie shows a side they just aren’t seeing.”
