Fmr House Speaker Dennis Hastert Hospitalized After Suffering Stroke

hastertThe sentencing of Dennis Hastert‘s federal hush money case might have to be postponed for a while; his lawyers announced today that the Former House Speaker has been recovering from a stroke for the past six weeks.

“I am confirming that during the first week of November our client Dennis Hastert was admitted to the hospital,” attorney Tom Green told Politico. Hastert was also said to have been treated for Sepsis and had two back surgeries during his hospital stay.

“We are very hopeful that Mr. Hastert will be released from the hospital in the early part of the new year,” Green said.

Hastert’s political legacy has taken a turn for the worse in the past few months. In October, Hastert pled guilty to hush-money payments to a victim who had accused himof sexual misconduct.

While this is the only felony charge Hastert currently faces, and court filings did not elaborate on the alleged misconduct, Hastert is expected in court on February 29 to receive his sentence. The possibility of a delay of sentence is subject to the conditions of his recovery and health.
