Former Nightly Show Correspondent Shreds Media on Latino Representation

Grace Parra has something to say and you’re going to listen to her. Why? She’ll tell you in the first few seconds of this video: She’s creating her own reality and it’s one in which you listen and accept that women who are ambitious are going to be recognized, heard, and successful.

The former Nightly Show correspondent released a video today admitting that she had been wrong to assume all Latinos would uniformly dismiss and reject Donald Trump when they went to the polls on Tuesday.

She moved on to call on media — and media consumers — to listen to Latinos when Trump undoubtedly makes moves that will affect them. She called on CNN, Fox, and every other network to bring articulate, informed Latinos on-air to talk about their experiences.

“We need to start finding alternative dialogue for describing Latinos. We are not a monolith. We cannot be grouped together, not even ideologically,” she said “We are significantly more divided than I thought that we were so here’s a thought: Instead of brining on a ‘token Latino,’ what if we had two? Is it possible that we could perchance have dialogue with two Latinos with opposing viewpoints to maybe understand our identity a little better?”

She moved on to urging Latinos to create their own media when traditional media fails them and make sure they’re being heard.
