Fox’s Napolitano: Trump Won’t ‘Survive’ if ‘He Has Another Week Like the Last One’
Former Superior Court judge and Fox News judicial analyst Andrew Napolitano argued in his latest column that if President Donald Trump has another week like this last one, his presidency won’t survive.
At the Washington Times, Napolitano went through an exhausting list of hits Trump took in the last week to make the case. He covered the “pseudo-negotiations” of the Hanoi summit with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, the testimony about Trump from former fixer Michael Cohen, a bipartisan move in Congress to stop Trump’s emergency declaration, the New York Times report on Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner‘s security clearance… it goes on.
With regard to Cohen, Napolitano wrote:
While the world watched the pseudo-negotiations in Hanoi, House Democrats were conducting a public hearing, over the objections of their Republicans colleagues, about Mr. Trump’s alleged unlawful behavior before and while he was president. The sole witness at the hearings was Michael Cohen, a convicted perjurer and Mr. Trump’s former lawyer. Cohen claimed personal knowledge of Mr. Trump’s alleged — and denied — criminal and fraudulent behavior.
For each of the above, plus even more knocks on Trump in the last week, Napolitano covered specifically how and why they hurt Trump.
The Fox News analyst concluded that this kind of week can’t be survived twice.
“The president has serious and powerful tormentors whom he cannot overcome by mockery alone,” said Napolitano, addressing the Trump tendency to try to resolve problems with “acerbic tweets.
“[Trump] needs to address these issues soberly, directly and maturely,” said Napolitano. A tall order for this president.
“Can President Trump survive all this? Yes — but not if he has another week like the last one,” the judge concluded.
