Gigi Hadid Responds to Melania Impression Backlash: ‘I Apologize to Anyone That I Offended’
Gigi Hadid has offered an apology after her impression of Melania Trump at the American Music Awards was criticized as “offensive” and “disrespectful.”
The model/actress hosted the show alongside Jay Pharaoh on Sunday, where she mocked the First Lady-to-be over her plagiarism scandal while putting on a fake accent and puckering her lips. The impression divided the Internet, with some people defending the impression as others found it less than impressive.
On Monday night, Hadid posted a handwritten note to Twitter, saying that her impression was “done in good humor” and that she previously removed parts of the script that she thought went “too far.”

“I believe Melania understands show business and the way shows are written and run,” said Hadid. “I apologize to anyone that I offended & have only the best wishes for our country.”
Hadid also insisted that there was no “bad intent” behind the impersonation, and that she was honored to host the AMAs.
