GOP Rep. Blasts Rosenstein for Calling Impeachment Threat ‘Extortion’: Maybe He ‘Should Step Aside’

Congressman Mark Meadows is part of new Republican efforts to start drafting articles of impeachment against Rod Rosenstein as a “last resort.”
As The Washington Post reported yesterday:
Members of the conservative House Freedom Caucus… finalized the draft in recent days. It came after weeks of disputes with Rosenstein over the Justice Department’s response to congressional requests for documents about the decisions and behavior of federal law enforcement officials working on the Russia investigation and other federal probes, including the investigation into 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s email server.
Meadows confirmed to WaPo that this course of action is seriously being considered, saying, “My frustrations about their inability to respond to simple requests could warrant further action.”
Well, it appears that Rosenstein is a bit ticked off at these Republicans, saying at the Newseum today, “I can tell you that there are people who have been making threats privately and publicly against me for quite some time. And I think they should understand by now the Department of Justice is not going to be extorted.”
He joked about the Freedom Caucus leaking and said the DOJ will not change how it does business because of “threats.”
Meadows responded by saying perhaps he should instead step aside:
If he believes being asked to do his job is ‘extortion,’ then Rod Rosenstein should step aside and allow us to find a new Deputy Attorney General—preferably one who is interested in transparency
