GOP Rep. Chris Collins Announces He’s Suspending His Campaign After Indictment

Congressman Chris Collins (R- NY) said earlier this week, after being indicted, he still plans to run for reelection.

Collins and his son have been charged with insider trading. In a press conference a few days ago, Collins called the charges “meritless” and said he’s going to stay in the race.

Well, not anymore.

In a statement posted to Twitter this morning, Collins announced, “I have decided that it is in the best interests of the constituents of NY-27, the Republican Party and President Trump’s agenda for me to suspend my campaign for re-election to Congress.”

His statement, as you see above, starts out with warning about Democrats’ attempts to take back the House and start impeachment proceedings against Trump.
