On This Week With George Stephanopoulos last Sunday, former Vice President Dick Cheney adamantly refuted the story that he and Senator Mike Enzi (R-WY) were “fishing buddies.”
“Never happened,” Cheney said.
Enzi argued otherwise to Politico on Tuesday: “I anchored the One Fly Fishing Contest with him one time, and I was asked to speak at his induction in the fly fishing Hall of Fame,” he said. “And we’ve talked about fishing when we’ve been together.”
Cheney’s daughter Liz Cheney is challenging Enzi for his Senate seat in the Wyoming Republican primary, a development that blindsided Enzi, who said he and the Vice President are longtime friends.
“When I was mayor [of Gillette, Wyo.], he was my U.S representative,” Enzi said of his friendship with Cheney. “We have a relationship thing.”
