Groundhog Day Live Stream From Punxsutawney, Pa.

Since 1887, a patch of land known as Gobbler’s Knob, in Punxsutawney, Pa., has been the weather prognosticating capital of the world for one day in February. That’s right, it’s Groundhog Day! At around 7:20 a.m. (Eastern), Punxsutawney Phil will determine how many more weeks of winter we have — which, considering it hit 60 degrees in parts of the Northeast yesterday, many not be such a bad thing.

If Phil sees his shadow, we are supposedly in for six more weeks of winter; if not, we’re in store for an early start to spring. The Associated Press reports:

Phil has seen his shadow 99 times and hasn’t seen it just 16 times since 1886, according to the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club’s Inner Circle, which runs the event. There are no records for the remaining years.

Of course, he’s only been accurate 39% of the time.

Still, it’s good clean fun. And you can watch the prognostication live here, courtesy of the good folks at VisitPa.com.
